usualy the stuff you get with hp computers or any laptops dont allow you to do a repair, just restore to factory defaults. if you want to do a repair on your system find some one with a actual windows xp cd (same version ou have media pro or home) and run from the cd press enter to go to install press f8 to agree and press R to repair not enter or you will do a reinstall and format everything, just so you know. if you want to just restore back to factory defaults usualy pressing f11 on the boot screen will get you to the cd’s you didnt burn, but again, you will loose everything.

Run windows xp setup from your second hard drive. Choose repair windows on the first hard drive. If it does not give what you want. You can back up your data and reinstall windows on first hard drive.

Data & driver back-ups:
BEFORE you do anything, back up your drivers to a CD!!
It gets harder and harder to find them, and many places charge to get them.
I use WINdrivers; excellent & free, from pc world here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...
Use the ‘back up all drivers’ for the first BU; that way you have them all.
Data back-ups are separate items from system backups;
Data are things you have created or added to you unit with programs: letters, documents, pictures, music, etc. These should be done every other week or 1X per month.
Windows has a data backup built in, but I find it bulky & hard to use.
One decent B.U. application is ‘Cobain’: moderately easy to use & freeware.
Your 1st backup should be the ‘all’ data option as a baseline; after that use the ‘incremental’, which saves only new items, and changes to originals. This saves space on you backup media.
Ideally 2 copies are made of each backup: one kept with the unit, one kept ‘off site’ in case of fire, storms, etc.
‘Cobain’ is here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwantispy.html
