Yes!! If you have a virus there you want to know it now. The chances up to date Norton has missed a virus is slim but I have seen it happen with all the virus scanners. Be sure you have a bot searcher such as “Spybot Search and Destroy”.
I would always scan backup files before they are backed up. But, you can’t be to thorough.
