How do I use the recovery partition from one hard drive on a new replacement hard drive?

I have a strange issue. I have a Compaq laptop, and when I test the hard drive through the BIOS, it is returning a failure error. The recovery partition is on this hard drive, and the drive is still accessible and usable for the most part. How can I replace the hard drive and still use the recovery partition to reload Windows?

Best reply by annorax64:

You can’t.

Your best bet is to try to save the recovery partition to CD or DVD. I’m thinking that there is probably directions in the documentation that came with the laptop on how you were supposed to create a recovery CD from the recovery partition in case this very situation occurred. It may be too late now though.

How to delete hard drive without recovery disk?

I have a dell laptop. It has become completely infected with a virus. I know the hard drive is infected because it has shut down administrator and keeps showing warning that system 32 is not usable. I would like to completely wipe out my hard drive bringing it back to factory status but I don’t have the restore disk. Is this something I can do without the disk? If so, how? Thanks!
I don’t have the recovery disk for the laptop and I don’t have any for any of the other computers as well. Never got one with them.

Best reply by November Rain:

the only way other than ripping it out of your computer is too download something and without administrator approval that may be tough or impossible, one thing to try, go into safe mode, restart, press ” F 8 ” repeatedly, and download this to clean it up, it is one of the elites..

Can I use the Recovery Drive to completely wipe out my Hard Drive resulting in a “new” computer?

I have an old XP Desktop that I want to make quicker and for use as solely an Internet browser (not the point of the question).
The question is, can I run the recovery drive (or however you start recovery) and end with a completely erased hard drive but still have the OS and any other vital components remain?

Best reply by Anonymous321:

Everything will become factory-fresh. You’ll have to do all the windows updates all over again and reinstall all your software.

What training do you need to do Hard Drive recovery?

Seems like a lucrative business to get into. Recovering data from physically damaged hard drives at $1,000-3,000 a pop. What does a tech need to know or where do they go to learn more? Thanks

Best reply by Justin B:

The problem is not the training, you also need a $100K or more worth of equipment and a dust controlled “clean room”. If you are seriously interested in it, I would contact an existing company that does it and ask questions.

i just bought my laptop and a virus attacked it and i got it off.Now my recovery hard drive is half way used?

i just got my pc and a virus attacked my pc i took it off and now my recovery hard drive is half way full.and my basic hard drive is pretty normal. Can someone answer mw and tell me is this right…

Best reply by Mercuri:

That is right. Usually your recovery hard drive is just large enough to fit the recovery files and that’s it. It’s not meant for anything else.

Just bought a new hard drive and recovery disc will not work.?

I just installed a new hard drive into my Toshiba laptop and I put in the Recover cd to format my new hard drive with my computers factory drivers and programs. The cd boots up and asks me to continue, then makes sure that I know my hard drive will be erased, and I select continue. When I do this the cd loops back around to the first question and starts over again and does this every time.

hi kayla, to make a computer work correctly you must have a good database and a good knowledge base so what has happened is that when you placed your knew hard drive in your computer your knowledge base was lost although you have a good data base this is very easy to understand but very hard to explain so to make your computer work correctly i recommend that you take your laptop to a computer repairman and explain to him that you installed a new hard drive and that you would like it if he erased your petition to install a new petition so that when your system is returned it will work right with the new drivers. good luck hope i was helpful to you

Any Good Hard Drive Recovery softwares for RMVB videos?

I need a software for my hard drive cause well it had a technical problem and the only way to access it was to format it and losted all my videos and stuff T^T i have the programs to get it back but none of them picked up any rvmb, is there any out there? it has to be free though

Best reply by Glenn R:

Recently I had a hard drive go out on me. Tried literally 10 programs before using Active Undelete. By far the best program. Will search for lost partitions from ages ago, and makes it easy to search through them for particular files or file types.

It really depends on how the sectors were written over. It will tell you the status of each file – how ‘recoverable’ they will be.

Make sure to recover to a different hard drive. You increase your risk of losing this data as you write more data over it. In hindsight, the best thing would have been to pop it into another computer and run the software before formatting it – but I understand it can be difficult to do that in some cases.

How do I run system recovery cd on hard drive?

I have my hard drive that won’t boot connected by USB to a working computer. How can I run a system recovery cd on my broken hard drive through the working computer? I need to do this because my other cd rom drive is broken as well. Please help me if you can thanks!

Best reply by kol:

Put in the recovery disc for that hard drive and see if it will allow you to select the broken one, not the working one.

If that doesn’t work swap out the hard drives, putting the broken one in only and run the disc. If your BOOT settings run the hard drive before the disc, you’ll have to go in the BOOT menu at startup (by hitting F2 or some combination, differs from manufacturers) and set it to run CDs before loading the hard drive.

Good Luck!
