Best reply by Colanth:

If it got overwritten, which is probably the case, by paying a lab tens of thousands of dollars to scan the disks in the drive with a scanning electron microscope (with no guarantee of success – you pay up front).

IOW, it’s gone.

Best reply by Arie:

No, that is not possible. First of all the recovery partition was intended specifically for your old computer, meaning that it contained custom drivers for example. Technically it is therefore not possible, but legally it is not allowed either as it is an OEM license, which is only allowed to be used on the computer it was sold with.

Dude, it sounds like you’ve put your research project off until the last minute. Sucks to be you. You aren’t going to get any answer here that is a substitute for everything that you need to know for your presentation. It’s a highly technical subject. Volumes could be written about it.

Data recovery software only helps with recovering deleted files, not corrupted files. If Excel cannot properly show the file any more, you are out of luck. Sorry. I hope this will teach you how important it is to make proper backups of your personal files.

Best reply by T:

I am quite sure that there are and I would Google HD recovery followed by your zip code to find such shops.
If your HD has physically failed, usually is making any clicking or jet engine type noise, It is usually not worth the cost to recover.
As a PC repair tech for over 13 years, I can tell you that the minimum cost of this type of HD recovery starts out at around $300.00 and can literally run into the $1000′s. This is because you have to buy an exact same type of HD and, in a clean room environment, the platters have to be removed from your HD and put into a new HD. If a platter is broken the cost will eaisly double or triple.

However, if your HD just no longer responds you can sometimes hook that drive up as a slave and copy the data from it. This costs considerably less but can still run into hundreds of dollars to have done.

This is why it is always a good idea to back up your data to an external source like a DVD or an external HD.

Good luck with your search and data recovery.

It is very likely that you have to pay for those data recovery software, which can let you preview the effects but cannot save the data before buying it.
I recommend one professional data recovery software:

http://www.data-recovery-utilities.com/photo-recovery/

Compared with the free software, personally I prefer this.

But if you insist the free, there are Top 6 Free Photo Recovery Software to Get Your Lost Photos Back from:
