will this work for Hard Drive recovery?

I have a raid 0 computer. I defraged my computer with a bad sector on one of the hard drives. I now need to recover some data.

Can i recover data by plugging one HD at a time into a 2.5″ HD enclosure and having another computer take the data off it?

Best reply by blamay22000:

Sure providing the drive is still functional and the data you are looking for isnt corrupt

Can you use an old hard-drive recovery partition to install an OS onto a new computer setup?

my old computer was pretty old (2001/2 I think) it had a recovery partition which I used to reformat the hard-drive of my old computer to re-install windows XP many times, If I were to get a new computer without an OS, would it be possible to use that recovery partition on a completely new setup (old one went out the window >.< )

Best reply by Arie:

No, that is not possible. First of all the recovery partition was intended specifically for your old computer, meaning that it contained custom drivers for example. Technically it is therefore not possible, but legally it is not allowed either as it is an OEM license, which is only allowed to be used on the computer it was sold with.

Can i use the HP recovery on a new hard drive?

My hard drive crashed in my HP and i have another one that is blank. If i stick the blank hard drive into my computer and press F10 to do the system recovery will it put the windows files and things on the hard drive? Will it interfere with the other hard drive if it Magically starts working and i use it again?

Best reply by kaustav_whoami:

The OS comes with HP recovery CD/DVD is an OEM edition of that OS. Of course you can install it on another hard disk but it will ask for a valid serial number; since the SID(security identifier) changes with the change of disk. If you can get a fresh serial number, you’re in.

What data recovery software is based off of windows vista?

I had about 70gb of data recovered from my accidentally formatted partition at a computer store. The total process took less than 30 minutes. The guy who did it for me said it was built on windows vista. Does anyone know the name of the software?

Best reply by Techonova T:

How do I run system recovery cd on hard drive?

I have my hard drive that won’t boot connected by USB to a working computer. How can I run a system recovery cd on my broken hard drive through the working computer? I need to do this because my other cd rom drive is broken as well. Please help me if you can thanks!

Best reply by kol:

Put in the recovery disc for that hard drive and see if it will allow you to select the broken one, not the working one.

If that doesn’t work swap out the hard drives, putting the broken one in only and run the disc. If your BOOT settings run the hard drive before the disc, you’ll have to go in the BOOT menu at startup (by hitting F2 or some combination, differs from manufacturers) and set it to run CDs before loading the hard drive.

Good Luck!

Does anyone know of good data recovery software?

I accidentally completely erased everything from my computer. I tried to do a system restore and restored it to factory settings. It is a compaq presario c500. I came across a product called search and recover, but I do not know if this is what I need. I also came across a product online called ontrack data recovery which sounds ok, but costs an arm and a leg. Is there anything out there that can help me get all my important information back?
What I did was a system recovery and not a system restore. Ant ideas?

how to perform repair windows xp I have hp 7420n with recovery hard drive?

I don’t have Windows on cd is install on second hard drive .
COMPUTER is HP Pavilion s7420n

Best reply by gclipse02:

You don’t have recovery discs because manufacturers include the recovery partition on your hard drive instead now. Reboot the computer, and try hitting F8 or F10 repeatedly as soon as it turns on. Recovery Console should be under one of those menus.

Are there any good data recovery programs for Ubuntu?

I’m able to see that my computer recognizes that the drive is plugged in, but Windows can’t see it, nor can any data recovery programs for Vista, so Ubuntu is my only other option.

Best reply by jplatt39:

Ubuntu is not necessarily your only other option. There is also a Linux Live CD called Knoppix which is superficially similar to Kubuntu, but is nobable for the technical tools installed — it was originally created by a computer consultant named Klaus Knopper for his own personal use as a desktop when working on client’s computers.

I want to suggest you spend some money. Roughly $40 US. Barnes and Noble, the last time I went in there (anywhere) had Kyle Rankin’s Knoppix hacks, which includes a copy of the CD in the back and is thorough about how to use the tools on it for things like doing backups. The oldest way would be using programs like Tar you can create an archive you can write to removable media (I once backed up two Gigabytes onto floppies). The reason I don’t recommend doing some research into tools for Ubuntu is, unfortunately, that because it is for people who don’t know much about computers, it doesn’t have some basic tools which even moderately difficult programs like Fedora have. I don’t use Ubuntu much and when I do I tend to install what I need on the fly using the command line and apt, so I can’t tell you what it does have.

Kyle Rankin’s book is really more useful than most of the software out there. I recommend it highly as a way to get what you want done.

You can get Knoppix without buying it, and get more information at:

hard drive crashed, no recovery disks but I have the XP COA sticker on the computer, what can I do?

It was a used computer purchase and I didn’t back up the hard drive in time. The computer has the XP COA sticker, how do I use that with a new hard drive, should I purchase one?

Best reply by ?:

as long as you have the license code you just need to borrow a disc, it does have to be the same version. you can try and contact microsoft to get a copy but they don’t tend to be real helpful.
