Data recovery for data lost in Recovery manager?

I have accidently run recovery manager on my laptop without taking a back of my data. How can I now recover the lost data?

Best reply by Colanth:

If it got overwritten, which is probably the case, by paying a lab tens of thousands of dollars to scan the disks in the drive with a scanning electron microscope (with no guarantee of success – you pay up front).

IOW, it’s gone.

Can someone tell me how a data recovery software actually works?

I’ve a presentation tomorrow in which I have to tell how a data recovery software works in a nutshell. How it traverses through HD, how it judges whether the data is a complete file or Allocation Table….? How it tells what’s the file extension? etc
Plz tell if you have relevant information… best answer gets 10 points!

Best reply by Toby:

Dude, it sounds like you’ve put your research project off until the last minute. Sucks to be you. You aren’t going to get any answer here that is a substitute for everything that you need to know for your presentation. It’s a highly technical subject. Volumes could be written about it.

My Excel file was corrupted, where i get free full version data recovery software to recover my excel file?

Please tell me any website where i can get free full version data recovery tool. Please help me out friends.

Best reply by Arie:

Data recovery software only helps with recovering deleted files, not corrupted files. If Excel cannot properly show the file any more, you are out of luck. Sorry. I hope this will teach you how important it is to make proper backups of your personal files.

how to save photos after recovering using data recovery software?

I got my photos deleted accidently I tried to recover using data recovery software but I am not able to save those photos.

Best reply by Hua:

It is very likely that you have to pay for those data recovery software, which can let you preview the effects but cannot save the data before buying it.
I recommend one professional data recovery software:

Should I reformat a hard drive before using a data recovery program?

My old hard drive is corrupted and I want to salvage the files on it using a data recovery program I’ve downloaded. However getting the program to read it is difficult. Do I need to reformat the hard drive? When I go to reformat it says this will erase all data on the disk, but according to other websites I’ve read it should be fine and I should still be able to salvage files. Which is correct?

Best reply by Tony RB:

If you do a full format, all the data on the disk will be overwritten with the formatting data – and you will lose the data you want to retrieve.

There is a type of formatting called “quick format” but that erases all the folder data, and that means you will have even more problems finding the data you want.

You say getting the program to read it is difficult. If the hard drive is failing, then you will have enormous problems getting any program to work right.

If the only problem is corrupted folder structures, then a quick format *might* work to erase all of the corrupted data, leaving the other data. Then your data recovery program would have to scan the entire hard drive.

I use the free Recuva program from Piriform to recover data, but I don’t know how it would work in your situation. Recuva has the ability to scan all the hard drive sectors, it is an option. If you can get it to work, you will need another drive to have a place to copy the selected data.

Wikipedia article about Recuva:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recuva

There are programs available that will read the data directly off the sectors of the hard drive and present it in hexadecimal format, but that doesn’t mean you can make enough sense out of the data to be able to recover it. The better programs also cost money.

How to restore hard drive from created backup Recovery Discs?

I created Recovery discs to backup my hard drive. I was prompted to create a set of five discs but some error prevented me from creating the last one. Hope that won’t show to be an issue later.

Now, my system crashed and I need to get all my data back, but am unsure of the steps to take to do so from the recovery discs. Can you tell me how and anything things else I might need to know? Thanks so much!

Best reply by choliscott:

Did you put the first recovery disc in the cd/dvd drive & reboot the computer & see if it allows you to boot off the cd? If nothing happens then you will need to go into the bios & see if its set to boot the cd first then the hard drive.

If this is set correctly, then you probably didn’t make the boot cd. Since you had an error, its possible you will still have issues.

best software for data recovery on Linux Platform?

What is the best data recovery Software for my Linux Platform. I am specifically using the CentOS 5 for my Zimbra Mail Server. Any suggestions will very much appreciated.

Best reply by jerry t:

You will have to be a lot more specific about what the problem is. Recovery from which linux filesystem or windows filesystem. Has the hard drive crashed, or is it a problem with a deleted file, or a wiped drive?
If you google for data recovery +linux you will see a lot of possible solutions for a lot of possible situations.
Good luck

What’s a good hard drive recovery software?

My external hard drive died out of nowhere. I plugged it as usual and it didn’t detect. So I disassembled the external and installed that hard drive into the desktop. When I boot up into windows it detects the hard drive but it shows as an unallocated drive.

Is there any software (free or for purchase) that will allow me to see my data?

Best reply by † Oh yeah:

TestDisk is pretty good. It is a free data recovery software that can run on multiple operating systems, which includes Windows, Mac, and Linux.
