I installed a new hard drive with the assumption that the system recovery disk would install the operating system (windows xp). It doesn’t work and HP doesn’t have them anymore (too out of date) what next? Anyone?

Hp has a procedure outlined for how to use the recovery disks in this article:

You should look for the section titled “Recovering from the recovery disks”, about halfway down the page, though you may want to browse all the topics.
