Will a Data Recovery specialist report me to the police for having torrents on my external hard drive?

I have movies and music that I have downloaded on my external hard drive. It’s stopped working and now I need to have a data recovery service performed on it. Will they report me? Will they know? Can they see files that have been on my PC first (i.e. as I am downloading movies and music to my PC’s hard drive first, then transfering to the xternal drive)?

Best reply by HDD_4242:

Yes, they can see files that are currently stored on your machine and can see files that may have been deleted. If the company’s legit, they shouldn’t be going through your files though seeing what you have on , so they won’t see or report you.

If you take your disk to a small, local repair shop, they may get curious and look around your disk, but they still probably won’t report you.

What do I do if the EASEUS data recovery wizard isn’t moving forward?

I am using EASEUS data recovery wizard to try to recover my files on my external hard drive. It looked like this was working for a while but now it is stuck in one spot and the bar isn’t moving forward. It isn’t frozen as the timer keeps increasing. Should I wait and see what happens or start over?

Best reply by vulcan:

Stop EASEUS and run chkdsk /f on the problem drive. Then try EASEUS again.

WeRecoverData.com or local electronic store for external hard disk data recovery?

I was looking into data recovery places and i came across this site. Does anyone with experience know how much it would be to recover just a few gigabytes (at most 2) Or are there any electronic stores that you know that provide this service? (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.)

I need to recover data from a damaged SimpleTech external hard disk by the way.

Best reply by Smith P:

data recovery software can help you. If your hard drive break down, it needs to send to the lab. But if only data have lost, you can choose a data recovery software online and also try that’s free trail to check what data you lost and how much data you can recover by data recovery software. You can try : http://www.hdrconline.com/hdrc_services.php

what is the best hard drive recovery system out there?

I deleted all of the information on my hard drive and it won’t even pick up when it is plugged in. I think I might have to take it to someone who can fix it for me.
The thing is I cant even open the drive (external) it won’t open like its not even there. I really don’t know what to do with it.

Best reply by degub0y:

try kernelNTFS

ive had some luck with that.

if you have deleted everything yourself, then DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE!!

it will be easy to recover if you dont put any otehr files on it or anything

Data Recovery. Hard Drive won’t start up, only 2 months old and makes a clicking noise.?

I need to know if this is an easy problem to fix or if there is a cheap way under $500(AU) to get the data back. It is an 80GB hard drive with less than 25GB of data. Would software recovery work? Or is it a mechanical problem?
It is a SATA hard drive out of a laptop. I have attempted to plug it in using an external hard drive casing but nothing was detected… please please help!!
