What data recovery software is based off of windows vista?

I had about 70gb of data recovered from my accidentally formatted partition at a computer store. The total process took less than 30 minutes. The guy who did it for me said it was built on windows vista. Does anyone know the name of the software?

How do I use the recovery partition from one hard drive on a new replacement hard drive?

I have a strange issue. I have a Compaq laptop, and when I test the hard drive through the BIOS, it is returning a failure error. The recovery partition is on this hard drive, and the drive is still accessible and usable for the most part. How can I replace the hard drive and still use the recovery partition to reload Windows?

Best reply by annorax64:

You can’t.

Your best bet is to try to save the recovery partition to CD or DVD. I’m thinking that there is probably directions in the documentation that came with the laptop on how you were supposed to create a recovery CD from the recovery partition in case this very situation occurred. It may be too late now though.

What is mean by partition table? How data recovery softwares get information about our deleted items?

What is mean by partition table? How data recovery softwares get information about our deleted items? From where do they find them?

Best reply by gijoe1701:

Information is written all over the disk. The partition table is a list for displaying the lay out of which parts of the table are reserved for file systems. An example is one partition for Windows and another seperate partition for Linux.

When a file is deleted, the reference to where the data is located is removed, but the data is still written on the disk. A data recovery service/software can examine the whole disk and identify all data on the disk to include that which has no reference in allocation tables.

Will performing a destructive recovery affect the recovery partition (D:/) of the hard drive?

I’m planning to do a detructive recovery on my hp PC. I read about the destructive recovery, and how it cleans your hard drive then reinstalls the operating system. I was wondering if when it cleaned your hard drive (drive c:/) it also reformatted the recovery partition of the hard drive (d:/). Could anybody tell me if it did that because i don’t want to erase my recovery partition, just my local disk.

How do you format your Hard Drive without a recovery disk?

I DONT HAVE A RECOVERY DISK AND I DONT WANT TO LOOSE MY WINDOWS XP.

I only have one partition of my hard drive and all my data including windows is in it.

So please someone tell me how do i format my hard drive without a recovery disk but still keeping my Windows.

Best reply by koammudo9:

you need to call your comp manufacturer for a replacement.
can’t be done without it. you also need to back up your data, all of it .you can make a backup of all your drivers on a dvd disk before formating. otherwise backup the rest of your data to disks or an external hard drive. and you will still need the manufacturers disk..sorry!
