can i reformat my hard drive with my recovery partition?

I have viruses and want to reformat my hard drive. If i use my recovery partition and restore my pc to factory settings and etc, does it completely reformat my hard drive and clean the slate completely?
If i update from xp to vista home premium, can i make another recovery partition after i install vista in case i need to reformat my drive again?

Best reply by Jim:

Yes, it will wipe the current partition out and reinstall the operating system to factory settings.

Should my scheduled virus scan run on the partition of my hard drive with recovery files?

I just switched from Norton AV to Avast!.
Avast! requires that I set what areas to scan. This laptop is running on Vista Home Premium, and has a ‘D:’ drive for recovery files. Should I make the scan run on this hard disk partition?

Best reply by Colinc:

Yes. If the machine becomes infected, it can place files all over the system. I have even seen a virus infect every shared folder on a server from one machine.

How do I save my files to the D:/Recovery Hard drive?

I have Vista Home Premium and am going to reinstall my system.
I have about 5GB free of recovery memory.
How can I put my most important files in there, so I can get them back when I reinstall windows?

Best reply by masteroflul:

lol you don’t. you can’t touch that partition at all. just burn your files to a dvd, retard.
