Can i use the HP recovery on a new hard drive?

My hard drive crashed in my HP and i have another one that is blank. If i stick the blank hard drive into my computer and press F10 to do the system recovery will it put the windows files and things on the hard drive? Will it interfere with the other hard drive if it Magically starts working and i use it again?

Best reply by kaustav_whoami:

The OS comes with HP recovery CD/DVD is an OEM edition of that OS. Of course you can install it on another hard disk but it will ask for a valid serial number; since the SID(security identifier) changes with the change of disk. If you can get a fresh serial number, you’re in.

I am using windows vista (it sucks). Please suggest me a recovery software that works best and recover my files in its original form. Thank you

If I use the Windows recovery disc to restore Windows, will it delete files on the D drive of my hard drive?

Cannot get the OS to boot, says primary master drive fails.
Although the primary master drive (hard drive) is recognized by the system bios.
It looks like I will have to use the Windows System Recovery disc to boot the OS. I need to keep the files on the D section of my hard drive… will the recovery disc overwrite all of my files?

Best reply by Jayenen:

Yes, you will lose all your information if you reformat a drive. Make sure you back your files up on a CD, DVD, online or a flash drive. This includes all your settings, programs you downloaded, fonts, themes, images, music, etc.
